About Makita
¡Hola! I’m Maka aka Makita!
I am a self taught bread baker dedicated to bringing you the best breads from around the world!
My family is from Santiago, Chile, and when I was young, we’d visit relatives who lived near a panadería! That’s where my love for bread blossomed - I can still remember the warm smell of fresh baked bread when we would walk down the street! As I grew, I realized that kind of bread culture isn’t common around the U.S., and I knew I wanted to help to change that!
“Makita” was my childhood nickname, and it stuck with me my whole life! I have been in the kitchen since I was little - from baking birthday cakes for my family, to competing in Skills USA! Baking bread has fulfilled little Makita’s dream of sharing comfort and culture through every loaf, bringing you the best bread when you’re home away from home!
I‘ve worked in kitchens and bakeries since I was 15, and I’ve always known from a young age that it would turn into something bigger! From 2017-2019, I studied Culinary and Baking & Pastries, where I built the foundation for my skills and knowledge I use today!
In April 2025, I traveled through Europe, taking in new experiences and adventures that completely changed my perspective. When I came back to the States, I quit my full-time job and started Makita’s Bread in June of 2025 - and I wouldn’t change a thing!
Becoming a woman-owned small business has its challenges, but I love every single second of it and I’m excited to continue this journey with you all!
¡Gracias a todos - TE AMO!
MAKITA :P
